Russia has triumphed in the 50 km freestyle mass start race. Alexander Legkov, Maxim Vylegzhanin and Ilia Chernousov swept the entire set of medals of the Olympic mass start. In the final meters they broke away from the main contenders and snatched victory from the overall leader, Norwegian Martin Johnsrud Sundby.
Alexander Legkov finished the race with a final time of 1 hour, 46 minutes, 55.2 seconds and won the title of Olympic champion.
Maxim Vylegzhanin won the silver medal, crossing the finish line 0.7 seconds after Legkov. Ilia Chernousov secured the bronze medal with time 0.8 seconds behind the leader.
Russian four-man bobsleigh team won gold medals of the Sochi Olympic Games in the last day of competitions. Crew comprising of Alexander Zubkov, Alexey Negodaylo, Dmitry Trunenkov and Alexey Voevoda passed the finish line with the result 3 min 40.60 seconds, becoming Olympic champions. They were leading in all four runs.
Team of Latvia ended up on the second place. Arvis Vilkaste, Daumants Dreiskens, Oskars Melbardis and Janis Strenga were only 0.09 second later, gaining silver medals.
American bobsleigh crew consisting of Steven Langton, Curtis Tomasevicz, Christopher Fogt and Steven Holcomb won bronze medals, trailing the leaders by 0.39 seconds.
The final hockey match between Canada and Sweden at the Bolshoy Ice Palace was an exciting end to the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Canada won the last of the 98 gold medals. The Vancouver Olympic Champions did not give Sweden a chance, winning 3-0.
The Canadians opened the scoring in the middle of the 1st period with a goal from Jonathan Toews. Sidney Crosby built on the success of his team in the 36th minute, and Chris Kunitz dispelled all doubts about the winner of the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 - he hit the back of the Swedish goal in the 50th minute.
The XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi ended with a Closing Ceremony in the Fisht Olympic stadium. The ceremony, which provided a bright and emotional conclusion to the Games, was dedicated to Russian culture. The audience was presented with a European vision of Russia, in a show directed by world-renowned director Daniele Finzi Pasca who became the screenwriter and director of the Sochi Olympics Closing Ceremony after joining the Russian team, which also included creative director Konstantin Ernst and executive producer Andrei Nasonovskiy.
