The Russian snowboarder Vic Wild won a gold medal in parallel slalom. According to his two attempts in the grand final, he was ahead of his rival, Slovenian Jean Koshir ,with a difference of 0.23 seconds , and thus brought the Russian national team a tenth jubilee Olympic medal of the highest standard. The total number of medals Russia has at the moment is 27, this is a new absolute record in the history of the Winter Games.
The Slovenian athlete Jean Koshir with a total lag of 0.23 seconds, took the second place on the Olympic podium. The bronze was secured by the Austrian Benjamin Karl in the small final.
In the same discipline among women, victory was won by the Austrian snowboarder Julia Duymovits. After losing the first attempt to the German Anke Karstens, on the second descent, she managed to win back her 0.72 seconds lag and took the lead by an advantage of 0.12 seconds. German Anke Karstens who had lost the grand final won a silver medal. Bronze in the small final was earned by another German representative, Amelie Kober.
