Sweden became the first semifinalist of the Olympic Games, defeating Slovenia in the quarterfinals 5-0.
In the first period, Swedish ice hockey player Alexander Steen scored the first goal of the game at the 19 minute mark. In the second period, both teams had chances to get ahead, but the spectators didn’t see one goal. However, the third period proved to be very fruitful for Sweden: goals were scored by Daniel Sedin (42 min), Loui Eriksson (49 min) and Carl Hagelin scored twice (52 and 57 min).
Sweden’s opponent in the semifinals will be determined in several hours in the match between Finland and Russia, which begins today at 16:30 at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
