Home crowd favourite Alexander Tretiakov (RUS) powered to victory in men's skeleton, winning gold ahead of Martins Dukurs (LAT), who won silver, and Matthew Antoine (USA), who won bronze.
This is Tretiakov's second Olympic Winter medal after winning bronze in Vancouver in 2010 and he is the first world champion in skeleton to win the event at the next Olympic Winter Games.
Tretiakov set a start record of 4.47 seconds and a track record of 55.95 in heat 1 on Friday and maintained his lead in heat 2. His third heat saw him trail Dukurs as second-fastest, but he was able to reclaim the lead in heat 4 with a lightning fast 56.02.
Dukurs is the first athlete from Latvia to win two silver medals at an Olympic Winter Games.
USA's John Daly was in third place after two heats on Friday but slipped into fourth place in 56.99 in heat 3 as Antoine powered past him in 56.69, leaving the two USA teammates to battle for bronze in heat 4.
But Daly got off to a disastrous start, mounting his sled awkwardly and dragging his feet, which ultimately cost him a medal.
Antoine's bronze makes USA the first NOC to complete the medal set in men's skeleton, having won gold, silver and bronze.
Alexander Tretiakov:
"I felt huge happiness, it means my cycle of training wasn't in vain. My victory is the result of a lot of training and hard work. All the emotion suddenly came out at the end and I felt lightness and joy."
