VANCOUVER SUBSTITUTE
Although not selected to race in the 10,000m at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, he was given the chance after Italian Enrico Fabris pulled out one hour before the race started. Beckert was substitute number four, but his phone was turned off and by the time he was contacted it was too late. The other three substitutes could not be contacted either.
