MAKING THE JUMP INTO THE NHL
Having previously competed in the Ontario Hockey League [OHL] in Canada, he had to learn quickly when he began playing in the National Hockey League [NHL] for the Colorado Avalanche. "The speed of the game is so much faster and you have to know what to do when you get the puck. It's something you learn as you go along; it's not anything you can prepare for. The quickness of the game, I've got to get quicker. I've got to get stronger, and get a better shot. That's stuff we work on everyday together at practice." (milehighhockey.com, 23 Dec 2011)
CLUB CAPTAIN
In September 2012 he was named as captain of the Colorado Avalanches at age 19. "I thought it was a regular team meeting but then I got there and it was just the coach and [former captain] Milan Hejduk. Milan started talking about how it was time to hand over the captaincy and that he was getting older. I realised what was going on and he asked if I thought I was ready. It felt a bit like a movie. I started laughing and got a big smile on that didn't really want to go away." (hockeyswede.tumblr.com, 04 September 2012)
