GeneralNATIONAL FIRSTS
His bronze medal in the singles at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi was the first figure skating medal won by a Kazakhstani skater. He became the first figure skater from Kazakhstan to win a medal at an International Skating Union [ISU] championship, when he won silver at the 2013 World Championships in London, ON, Canada. CHORUS SINGING
In 2002, he participated at the Choir Olympics in Pusan, Korea. A year later he had to choose between singing or figure skating, as he did not have enough time to dedicate to both. (Tengri, 25 Jan 2011)
PERFORMANCE PREFERENCES
He is one of the few professional ice skaters able to perform Biellmann spin, which requires a great deal of flexibility and is mainly performed by female figure skaters. He says his favourite part of his performance is the new set of step sequences. "They are incredibly complex, but very cool. I hope the public will judge them on their merits."
