GeneralTRAINING RIVALRIES
A lack of funding for skeleton in Spain has meant he has trained with the British and Swiss teams in the past. However, this has proved a difficult arrangement on the occasions Mirambell has finished ahead of his training partners at international events. "It can be complicated. I got to train with the Swiss and within two weeks I was ahead of them. They could not believe they were below Spain. The British team had a budget of a million and a half Euros. I arrived and beat them in the next races. Automatically problems arose." (vavel.com, 07 Aug 2013)
NATIONAL FIRSTS
He became the first Spaniard to compete in skeleton at an Olympic Winter Games when he represented his country at the 2010 Games in Vancouver. He was also the first Spaniard to finish on the podium at an international skeleton event, achieving the feat at the 2008 Grand Prix in Innsbruck, Austria. STARTING FROM SCRATCH
The first time he raced in 2005 in Austria, he used a handmade sled and his shoes were made with some nails and a cheese grater. (vavel.com, 07 Aug 2013; 20minutos.es, 14 Sep 2009)
